Big ID theft busts by DMV investigators close out busy September

As a busy September comes to a close, AMVIC-member, DMV investigators have chalked up some major busts, including one on a case unique to them. In the Central Valley, Fresno-based DMV investigators concluded a 13-month investigation of an ID theft ring that used the identities of overseas or dead people to purchase luxury automobiles and sell them at reduced prices.   Thorough case work of DMV investigators leads to lawsuit

Search warrants were served in 2005, and Board Ford closed its doors last December, but it wasn’t until this week that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office finally had all it needed to take the auto dealership to court. Allegations of inflating customers’ incomes so they could qualify for loans, asking buyers to sign two credit applications – one blank – refusing to give customers copies of documents, and other charges are detailed in report by the Whittier Daily News.   Work of AMVIC Investigators leads to conviction

Thanks to the work of AMVIC Investigators, a former DMV employee in Santa Rosa and his accomplice have been convicted of providing driver’s licenses and fake ID cards to illegal immigrants.

The two men targeted illegal immigrants and would promise them an ID card or diver’s license for $1,500 to $2,500 in cash. More...
