Retired Special Agents gather for some holiday cheer
Report from Bob Luca

Date: 1/6/2008

Two dozen retired DOJ Special Agents gathered at the Sheepherders Inn in Rancho Cordova (Sacramento County) on Dec. 21 to swap war stories – some even true – and to find out what each other has been doing to keep busy in retirement.

Among those attending were former CBI Chief Martin Ryan, who is now the Amador County Sheriff, former Assistant Chief Diana Machen, and former BNE and BFS Chief Steve Helsley. Current CBII Chief Craig Buehler also attended.

Most came from the Sacramento area, with the exception of Richard Briggs, who now lives in San Diego, Leonard Picallo, who lives in the Bay Area, and Al Bedrosian, who drove down from Paradise for the lunch.

Everyone seemed to have a great time, although I noticed that the bar did not do as well as it might have in the past. I guess these guys are more worried now about drinking, since they were driving their own cars and not the state sled!

Special thanks to Chris Schermerhorn, former SFBNE dispatcher, who now works in CBII Sacramento for helping me with the arrangements and logistics. We hope to do this again next year so stay in touch and check the ASA web site for new information about retired agents.
