CACI Conference moves to Palm Springs
-- Three Board seats up for election
Date: 8/21/2008
For the first time in 28 years, the California Association of Criminal Investigators (CACI) Conference will be held simultaneously to the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) Conference.
Originally scheduled for Las Vegas, the CACI Board voted to make the switch to Palm Springs at a March meeting in San Diego. By tradition, attendees to the previous conference vote on the site of the next one, which last year members chose Las Vegas. But the vote also empowered the Board to switch sites if more reasonable accommodations could be found that would save a substantial amount of money.
“Given the money we could save our members and the importance of this contract year, it made perfect sense to hold the CACI Conference concurrently with the CSLEA Conference,” said CACI President Laura Campos. “We have spent some resources on negotiations this year, and the discounts we will receive from the switch in sites will keep our association’s finances in the black. Equally important, this will give us a chance to hear directly from the many CSLEA and visiting officials in this turbulent contract year.”
The CACI general membership meeting will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Doral Princess Resort in Palm Springs. Campos encouraged any and all CACI members to attend this year’s meeting. “This is your conference and your chance to help shape the course your bargaining unit will take in the coming years and to polish your skills as a professional. Furthermore, CACI will pay for your Saturday night stay. (See attached registration form).
Three Board seats up for election
Preceding the general membership meeting will be another CACI Board meeting on Friday, Oct. 10. Three seats on the board are up for election:
• 1 director for the Medical/Dental board
• 1 director for the Dept. of Insurance Fraud Division
• 1 director for the Franchise Tax Board/Controller’s Office
The winners will take a seat on the CACI Board at the Oct. 10 meeting.
Your vote on the contract
All CACI members will have a vote on the contract hammered out by CSLEA. It is vital you receive your ballot. If you need to update your contact information, please do so on the CSLEA Web site.
