Suspected murderer of SEFFA member found in Oregon
-- Sheriff’s detectives get tip on 4-year-old case
Acting on a tip, Napa County Sheriff’s detectives have made a positive identification of the man they believe murdered Veterans Home of California at Yountville Security Officer Manny Reyes in 2003.
Juan Jose Hernandez Mendoza, 28, remains in an Oregon jail on charges there. According to press release issued by the sheriff’s department, “Napa County Sheriff’s Detectives recently received information that Mendoza was in custody in an Oregon County Jail under an assumed name. More... |

New engine breaks 80-year record at Eldridge Fire Department
It didn’t have to go fast to break an 80-year record, but when a brand new Type I HME Custom Rescue Pumper rolled up to the Eldridge Fire Department on Feb. 11, it became the first engine since 1928 that wasn’t a hand-me-down from another agency.
The Eldridge Fire Department, staffed by SEFFA and CSLEA members, is based at the Sonoma Developmental Center of the state Department of Developmental Services and keeps watch over the 1,640-acre facility, the oldest such institution for treating individuals with developmental disabilities in California. The heroes who rose to the challenge and defeated the Southern California wildfires are too numerous to name. They answered the call from all levels of government and came pouring out of every agency massive and miniscule.
The men and women of the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) make up the central thread in the state’s public-safety net, and the story of Engine Company 5969 of Hearst Castle is a good illustration of the inter-dependence each thread in that net has to one another. More... |
