A new alliance between two of California's largest public safety associations, announced in a letter this week, will present state policymakers with a much stronger voice for the law-enforcement professionals who put their lives on the line every day.
CAUSE Statewide Law Enforcement Association and the California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA) are teaming up to give the state's public safety employees a united front on bread-and-butter issues such as compensation, retirement formulas, medical coverage, and the most up-to-date equipment needed.
"The timing is right because of the unprecedented assault on state law enforcement by one of the most hostile gubernatorial administrations ever in California history," said Alan Barcelona, president of CAUSE. "CCPOA has an excellent record in representing its members well, and CAUSE is one of the few bargaining units for state employees that has secured a contract at all -- and without takeaways -- from a Governor who continues to call the people that work for him 'special interests.' "
As stated in the letter (attached to this story), "This alliance will provide a united front of sworn peace officers collectively working to provide pay parity with local law enforcement as well as other state law enforcement agencies. The alliance pact will also provide the resources and prestige necessary to successfully achieve pay parity for non-sworn public safety personnel. This pact will also provide for the necessary unified front in the fight to protect our retirement formulas."
Barcelona also said that CAUSE has had a great working relationship politically with CCPOA for the past decade, and that the letter formalizing the unity of both groups builds upon a strong foundation already established.
